THE OTHER PORTLAND:
Art & Ecology in the 5th Quadrant Scheduled for January & February 2007 at the Portland Art Center |
This multi-faceted exhibition organized by Art on the Peninsula and North Portland Neighborhood Services will address the ecological challenges facing North Portland (the 5th Quadrant) from the perspective of artists who are expanding our points of view in new ways. It will include installations & exhibits at the Portland Art Center and a panel discussion among artists, environmentalists, scientists, Peninsula industrialists & others at a site yet to be confirmed. The Other Portland organizers have received more than a dozen exciting proposals for installations from artists working to present the political, poetic and the practical. Artists have been encouraged to respond in emotional, aesthetic and spiritual ways, using real-life solutions to environmental problems, and scientific inquiry to inspire their work. They are taking their cues from North Portland but their notions reach far beyond the boundaries of the Peninsula --- into the broader environmental issues of Portland as a whole and those of the surrounding Pacific Northwest. Works will include modest-sized installations, film, video and experimental pieces, as well as paintings, drawings and mixed-media flat art. Additional details will be posted as available. This event is made possible through the financial support of: North Portland Trust Community Watershed Project of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services Metro’s North Portland Enhancement Committee Contact: Rhoda London, Project Manager & Curator email theotherportland@gmail.com. |
